My husband and I loved this soup. I did even so brand some modest changes. First, I added 1 beefiness soup bone, I detect that this always helps add more season to whatsoever soup. 2d I used ii cups of water, ii cups of beef broth, and 2 cups of chicken broth to rest the flavors. Too, I added fresh garlic instead of garlic powder. Last, I only used ane/ii a cup of barley and I added the barley 2hrs. before serving it. The first time I made this soup I added the barley in the beginning the barley concluded up mushy.
12/08/2004
I fabricated this for dinner last nighttime and it was great, except for one matter. When I browned the stew meat in the oil the recipe said "add a piddling h2o to the skillet and stir to selection up the browned bits." I did that but my soup turned out Style too greasy, next time I would just use the meat!

We really enjoyed this soup on a common cold rainy 24-hour interval in winter...simply....slow cooked beef combined with the barley did something ....um..cleansing to our systems! So I circumspection anyone with digestive problems to be aware of this. It was very succulent, that'southward for sure, only information technology'south become a bit of a comedy thing effectually here when I threaten to brand the crock pot beef barley soup! :-) Perhaps adjacent time I'll make it without the beefiness, and add cold roast beef at the cease of the cooking...that should be ok.
12/12/2004
Bang-up basics. Used all beef broth, added carrots, used 3 large yellow onions, real garlic, more spices. It was still banal at the cease, but I institute the secret....added some fennel seed for the last half hour....perfect!!
12/29/2007
A overnice budget friendly, piece of cake soup for a absurd wintertime solar day. I merely had quick cooking barley, so I added information technology in the last thirty minutes of cooking.
10/thirty/2000
very good. You should give it a try.
02/01/2011
Took into business relationship the comments about being a trivial bland. Browned stew meat w/ diced yellow onion and thyme. Added to the crockpot 1 1/2 cans beef goop, 6 cups water and 4tbsp. of beef granules. Then added sliced carrots, can of corn and tin can of diced tomoatoes. Two hrs. before serving I added the barley. So yummy!! My husband loved it and my very fussy, no veggie eating teenager LOVED it too. Will definitely brand once more.
06/04/2001
I establish this soup to be to plain tasting for my family, It was easy enough and turned out fine, looked good, but there was just no flavor to it. I would recomend adding alittle something more to it, I don't retrieve I'll attempt this one again.
01/24/2007
I used chopped white onion, instead of the light-green onion. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly and it was delicious. Great mode to used leftover pot roast, steak, etc.!
10/11/2001
YUM! This is delicious. I used regular onion instead of dark-green onion and everyone loved it.
xi/08/2007
This is such an easy recipe! I've fabricated it with the beef and without and it's but equally good. I did arrange the seasonings a bit to my taste simply that's the just change I made. I'm looking frontward to making it more ofttimes this winter!
11/12/2008
In regards to the barley, use pearl barley instead of the quick cooking variety in the crock pot.
01/31/2008
My mom fabricated the best beef barley soup but never had a recipe. She but tossed stuff in, and so I tried to find something like. This is what I did and it was much similar my mom's. I browned some beef on a large marrow os( not sure which cut- my married man picked it up) in olive oil. I added common salt, pepper, garlic powder and fresh cut garlic and sautee'd for a bit. I added three stalks of cutting up celery and some fresh mushrooms too. I put the meat/bone mixture in a crockpot, added carrots and a handful of fresh parsley. I substituted the light-green onion and added ane onion cut up in big chunks. Then poured in ii cans of beef broth and filled the crock pot the rest of the mode up ( minus ii inches) with h2o. I cooked on low for 8 hours. I then added ane/2 cup of barley and a can of tuckered butter beans. I cooked on low for an addtional hour and it tasted only similar my mom's soup. I dearest the flavor , every bit it reminds me of what I had growing up. At first the broth is thin and I love information technology that style but if information technology just sets a scrap after y'all turn off the oestrus, it thickens upwards and I dear it that manner every bit well. I charge per unit my own a 4.
04/eleven/2011
This was actually, actually bad. Sorry. We tried...
03/xiii/2011
@ Moochiecat: Any fourth dimension everyone who eats the same thing ends up all having 'digestive problems', usually means that the meat used was improperly handled and/or expired and should not accept been used.
07/30/2011
I think this is a nifty recipe! Warm and hearty...adept for cold winter days. I tweaked the seasonings to my taste, simply Im non ane for writing a review based on a million alterations. This recipe was practiced as is, and better when changed for my tastes. Even my hubby, the pickiest of picky gobbled this right up. A winter staple in our house.
07/sixteen/2010
This is a great starter recipe for Beef Barley Soup. I don't bother with the slow cooker; I do information technology right on my stovetop. I let it simmer on low for about ii or 3 hours, and the beef comes out unbelievably tender. I also don't use the plainly water at all. I use all beef broth to cook the veggies and the meat and it works so much better than just water. I also add balsamic vinegar and a impact of tomato paste to the meat to requite some tanginess.
10/17/2011
Outstanding! I was trying to utilize ingredients from my pantry, so I used almost three boxes of organic chicken broth. I pressed three small cloves of garlic in place of the garlic powder. I used a large yellow onion instead of the green onions. Added a tad more meat, a pinch more salt and I inadvertantly added the thyme at the beginning instead of only before serving. I likewise followed some other reviewer's tip and added the barley two-3 hours earlier serving. All said, this is the best soup I've e'er fabricated. I took a big bowl of it to my neighbors forth with a pan of cornbread. They enjoyed it, too!
01/02/2010
I made this recipe yesterday and it came out great. Equally information technology was getting closer to being done I thought that information technology could use something extra. Afterward reading through some reviews I decided to add some Worcestershire Sauce and Beef Boullion. Thats exactly what it needed. Next time I will add the barley well-nigh 2-three hours before its finished. Great recipe!!!!
10/29/2010
I halved the recipe for utilise in my minor dull cooker. This turned out as more of a stew than a soup, but I'm OK with that. I couldn't find beef goop without MSG, so I used beefiness stock instead. I tossed the beef with salt, pepper, and flour before browning, and used a bit of the beefiness stock to deglaze the skillet instead of water. I as well used a regular onion rather than light-green onions. The beef was very tender and the barley and the carrots didn't get mushy (I don't like mushy carrots) despite the long cooking time. I'll make this again for sure.
11/06/2009
It was pretty good. I followed instructions in the comments to add all the ingredients to the slow cooker, except the barley, melt for 10 hours, and so let the barley in an hour before finish. I idea "wow, I take style more than than a half cup of barley, what if I make it 1 cup?" That was a mistake ... at present I have a soup that's nigh the consistency of oatmeal! I'll endeavor to thin information technology out with more than broth.
01/31/2010
I added barley in 2 hours before it was ready to avoid mush; and I added 1 can of craven broth in place of some of the h2o; also added 1 tin of rotel diced tomatoes with chiles, which gave information technology some spice; used a purse of frozen mixed vegetables; turned out great! volition definitely make again.
02/28/2011
When I first made this soup, I made it exactly according to the recipe. I had bought all my ingredients fresh that day and so the but thing I could think that acquired it to become wrong was the canned beef broth. So I fabricated it again, this time with a quart of beef stock (the kind Swanson makes). I'g certain it'southward not as expert every bit bootleg stock would exist, but it was a vast improvement from the canned broth. That is the just change I would propose to this recipe. Otherwise it is smashing.
04/17/2009
Absolutely the best. Very simple, nourishing, affordable repast. My husband very sincerely gets tears of happiness in his optics just thinking about it, and he didn't even know he liked barley until I fabricated this for him. I had no parsley, and forgot the thyme, and it is still first-class.
01/04/2011
I accept electric pressure cooker that I used to make this soup. Beef Barley Soup has always been a banal soup which is good when you are non feeling well but for normal times I dress it upwards. I utilize fresh or frozen carrots (I buy precut matchstick carrot to use in soup a lot). I use the dark-green onions but I use 12 instead of 6. Always fresh garlic over powder and I add ii tsp of Mrs. Dash. I cook the Meat for xx Minutes after I brown with no oil with everything but the barley. I allow cool down then add the barley and cook on rice setting. Came out bang-up. I also add a hand full of fresh snapped green beans when I put the barley in as well.
01/01/2011
Really enjoyed this soup. I added a can of diced tomatoes. Beware, ane tsp of pepper leaves information technology quite spicy. A flake much for my husband. Next time I will half that. Otherwise, this is a slap-up recipe.
02/12/2009
Very hearty soup and tin be eaten equally a meal. I added some parsnip and more broth. Very practiced.
09/26/2010
I qppreciate that this recipe utilizes the dull cooker, which I like to use when we are busy. In this case, we were gone all twenty-four hours, and it was prissy to come home to an already cooked meal. I added in some corn and kept the recipe the same otherwise. My husband and I liked this, just the kids said that they didn't actually care for the barley.
eleven/03/2008
I actually liked this recipe. The longer it sits the better it gets. I guess I didn't realize that my crockpot would not agree all the ingredients. I put everything in the crockpot, with the improver of a can of petite diced tomatoes, and absolutely did not have room for the 6 cups of water. I added as much every bit I could. I probably added betwixt i and ii cups of h2o. Needless to say my soup was a petty thick, simply fortunately nosotros like information technology that way, and we both thought it was delish!! I also forgot to add the thyme at the cease, not sure what that would have added. Will definately make once again and again.
05/04/2011
I found this recipe to be delicious. The only thing I would change is cut the onions in one-half and add more carrots. My wife, girl and I thought in that location was simply many onions. It sort of over took the flavor.
11/15/2007
This was a cracking recipe my only modify was I used venison cooked with onions and a footling steak seasoning. Served at a company meeting tiffin WOW what a hitting. Thanks
01/26/2009
Wow this was cracking. I wanted something a little bit thicker and so I used the Beef Barley STEW recipe PLUS the Slow Cooker Beef Barley Soup recipe together. It turned into a really thick soup. I used viii cups of beef broth and two cups of h2o. Ane of the boxes of beef broth was a fancy ane made from sirloin steak and was labeled BOLD. I added one TBSP of balsamic vinegar and a 1/2 Loving cup of White Wine. Cooked information technology for 8 hours on low. DELISH !
02/05/2012
Absolutely loved this soup! I had tons of stew meat and didn't know what to do with it, and came across this recipe. It made so much I was able to have one-half of information technology to my grandparents! I didnt have fresh parsley or onions, and can't wait to make it over again with those added.
01/26/2009
Warning! The recipe calls for adding the barley at the beginning. Exercise not add until about 30 minutes before the soup should exist washed. I followed the recipe and the barley was mushy and pretty gross by the time 6 hours in the slow cooker had passed. As far as flavor goes, I thought it was OK merely my family refused to eat it and concluded up eating sandwiches instead!
06/27/2007
I've made this a couple times now. 1st time with condensed soup and 2nd with broth (Swanson'south)...I should have done as told. The condensed gives it much more season! I merely toss frozen stew meat, broth, garlic and onion in tedious cooker on high for a few hours. Then I add celery, carrots (extra!), thyme, pepper and barley. Let it go along low for a few more hours and we all devour information technology!!! Thank you for the great recipe!
10/29/2007
This is a great beef barley soup recipe! I wouldn't change a thing! I did have to, though. I didn't accept enough beef stock so I used beef boullion. That was fine. I also wanted to try my fresh herbs instead of the dried thyme. Other than those very minor changes, this was fantastic and very easy to make. My fiance had never had beef barley and was kind of skeptical of it and he now is a large fan of the stuff and wants more than of information technology!
02/04/2009
This soup is ok. A little banal. I left out the scallions and used ane chopped xanthous onion instead. The meat was very tender and this makes a Large batch of soup. I just felt like it was missing something. Adjacent time I make this, and I will brand it once more considering information technology has potential, I will use fresh herbs (thyme and parsley) and some mushrooms. I too may use chicken broth instead of beef.
eleven/09/2003
I've used this recipe several times and my husband and I both similar it. We thought it was likewise watery, then nosotros use (half-dozen) fourteen.five oz cans of beef broth and don't add any h2o. He's a big beef fan, so I also increase the beefiness to two or 2 1/2 lbs. Add together bread and salad and you have a great repast on for a common cold afternoon!
12/11/2001
This was easy to prepare, but I would have liked information technology more if there were more than ingredients to add together to the season. It merely didn't say, Wow! in my oral fissure.
03/05/2007
This was pretty good, and very easy to put together. But it seemed to be missing something. Am going to play with seasongs a bit. But even so I would go far again as it is a great healthy and filling meal on a chilly winter 24-hour interval!
07/xiv/2009
Very hearty and tasty stew! I loved how tender the beef was from using the ho-hum cooker. Piece of cake to make and freeze for more dinners another mean solar day. I used fresh thyme rather than dried, and it needed a scrap of salt. I will make this again for sure!
10/xvi/2011
Delicious... I also added xanthous onion. Only matter I would change would be to cook the barley separately... Turned out a bit starchy. Otherwise a cracking recipe. A dollop of sour cream on top and some Portuguese rolls, and dinner is served!!
09/thirty/2001
I replaced the beefiness and beef broth with chicken cutlets and chicken broth and made a wonderful chicken barley soup. Thanks for a swell recipe!
11/xvi/2013
I made this yesterday and my family unit actually enjoyed it! The meat was so tender! I did follow the advice to add the barley with about 2 hours left, and I turned the cooker to high for it. Definitely will be using this again
01/07/2009
This soup is so like shooting fish in a barrel to make and enjoyable to serve. I put the leftovers in the freezer but found myself defrosting them the side by side solar day when my married man was asking for more.
01/21/2013
This was a wonderful recipe, afterwards reading many reviews I added the barley the last 2hours of cooking for a firmer barley it worked peachy, I did mistakenly add together the thyme at the start of the recipe. It worked out fine. Prep time was minimal flavor was powerful, if anyone finds this to banal I would suggest adding afew dashes of Worcestershire. I volition call this recipe a keeper especially since information technology even pleased my fussy eater
04/08/2001
This is a great soup! I make a double batch either on the stove tiptop or in the tedious cooker, so I can the rest for futurity use. My married man and kids love it, also. It is still just equally proficient canned as fresh. My family prefers my canned version to anything store bought.
12/28/2009
Cheers for this great recipe. I think it was merely a little bit too fiery... I will reduce the pepper amount to 1/2 next time. I used fresh garlic and added fresh mushrooms. We really enjoyed it!
04/13/2008
I added 4 cups of beef goop, 3 cups of water, 2 tsps of ground thyme, and reduced the salt past 1/iv (married man has loftier bp). I added a tin can of Northern beans, and cooked the soup for 10 hours on low. The soup came out out so thick and rich. Yummy!
02/16/2011
This was wonderful, I like a niggling more kick and then I added ane/4 cup zinfandel (red), a table spoon of sundried tomaotoes, two chopped roma tomatoes, fresh garlic, and a small murphy...it rocked!
06/16/2006
The commencement thing about this recipe that grabbed my attention was that it is made in a slow cooker. The prep for this is easy and smelled delicious most instantly, only the gustatory modality is SO bland. I have done everything I could to spice it up including fresh garlic, onion powder, extra garlic powder, garlic table salt, and finally tomato sauce, but information technology's still but so-so. I've thrown it out and volition Not make this again!
10/04/2008
This was excellent!! My family loved information technology. I used fresh garlic instead of garlic powder & extra blk pepper when i cooked the meat. I doubled the recipe and so nosotros would have left-overs. It turned out so good, I will get in all the time.
x/03/2012
Very filling and so skillful.
01/08/2002
I tried both beefiness and chicken versions with double the pepper and thyme to give it a bit more kick. My daughter likes to add Tiger Sauce to become an fifty-fifty spicier soup. A definite keeper!
12/28/2007
There is only 1 affair I would add.....steak sauce! Just a few dashes (depending on how big your slow cooker is) and it spices upwards whatever blandness that is in at that place! Use the spicy A1 steak sauce for any needed kick. I tend to eyeball it. I accept a modest slowcooker, since there is only me and my fiance....merely we both love it!
11/09/2010
This was good....but liked information technology much better once it sat overnight in my 'refrigerator and and then warmed it upward the next day. I always think soup tastes better when it sits and absorbs all the flavors. I added a little less barley and and a little actress beef broth. Will make this again....the day before I serve it.
09/02/2013
The soup was delicious -- and healthy. I added a beef pho soup base and it was wonderful.
05/sixteen/2009
I gave this a 3-star rating, because to be honest I did not try the soup as information technology concluded up. I was trying to re-create a thick barley soup nosotros had at a eating place. I started with this recipe in the crock pot, then when it was done I transferred it to a pot and added a blonde roux (recipe on this site too). Yum yum yum!! Perfect :-)
07/16/2003
First-class soup. I've looked a long time for skillful beef barley soup.Easy prep then put in slow cooker and forget information technology. I did notice that vi stalks of celery was too much as was 6 onions. I used 4 stalks of celery and 3 onions. I cooked it 8 hours and found that possibly besides much every bit I would have liked the barley a piffling more al dente. You lot will dearest this soup.
09/28/2004
Our favorite beefiness barley soup! I add a can of tomato sauce or stewed tomatoes for a bit more flavor, and apply more beefiness broth/less water. Thick and yummy!
01/thirty/2002
I cooked this too long - 11 hours - because I work, just it smelled great when i walked in the door. It was a footling thicker but however good. Proficient reviews from the people I served, and four of us went through the whole matter in i meal. I would make it again, but information technology won't be an often repeat.
02/xiii/2009
Bummer. I have read LOTS of reviews from LOTS of recipes on this site that have complained most blandness and have never had a problem - even when I've had to add together but a flake more salt and pepper than chosen for - but this time, the reviewers were right. I added extra salt, extra pepper, garlic salt, Worcestershire sauce, a bit of A1, lycopersicon esculentum paste, blackstrap molasses, sage, and finally Adobo (a salt and pepper combo that's popular in Cuban kitchens) and even so, to quote another reviewer: in that location was no "wow" in my mouth. In fact all of those things barely made a dent! I did follow ane reviewer's advice and looked upwardly the Beef Barley Stew recipe on here and added about 2 T balsamic vinegar and it kind of helped, but not really, and it was honestly a last ditch effort. It'south very pretty, but pretty just isn't gonna cutting it this time. I appreciate the recipe, just next time I'll be looking for something dissimilar.
11/24/2010
I love this soup! It was the start time I made anything with Barley and it turned out so yummy! I'm hooked now. The only changes I made was to use ground beefiness, because I had it on hand, and burgoo cubes reconstituted to make the broth. I call up I did the burgoo cubes wrong though because information technology turned out saltier then the ocean. I don't count that as a trouble of the recipe though, that was my mistake. And so practiced! Thank y'all for sharing!
11/03/2012
This serves as an first-class base of operations
01/15/2007
I cooked this on the stovetop & I used leftover, cubed t-bone steaks (cooked to MED) so I but gave my veggies a quick saute & then added the beef, broths & spices. I just had almost 3/4 cup of beefiness broth & another loving cup of chicken and so I combined those & added enough vegetable broth ( a very rich homemade broth) to make up the difference & then used some other 2 cups or so instead of h2o. I added minced garlic, a couple of bay leaves, worcestershire & well-nigh a tbp of beef base. I too cut the barley dorsum to a piddling more than half. Wonderful soup that was full of flavor....thanks Robin!
01/25/2004
Very nice recipe. I tried adding a piffling more than Barley (about ane/2 cup more than - but I don't think I'll do that next fourth dimension. Information technology was a little thick. I as well followed a prior reviewer suggestion, I used 7 cups of beef broth (fabricated with beefiness bullion) and no h2o. I'll do this one again.
12/18/2008
Very disappointing. Really bland even though it smelled great while cooking. I even added a bay leaf and some italian seasoning out of desperation. I used stew meat, maybe I needed something fattier.....definitely not worth the time and effort if you like savory flavors in your food.
12/07/2000
This was very succulent! It was more like a stew - very filling. A wonderful surprise and a definite "do over" in our house!
02/28/2014
I made this soup recently on a nice cold twenty-four hours. I followed the recipe exactly but it needed more common salt and pepper for my gustation. I used i loving cup of barley and information technology was just the right amount. The only thing is the second day. Soup really got very thick and I had to add more than beef broth. Otherwise, the family enjoyed it.
02/20/2003
One word - Blah! I fifty-fifty tried to spice information technology upwards with extra spices merely it didn't help. Was way as well watered down. Won't make over again.
02/xix/2001
Very easy, very flarvorful.
01/01/2015
This is a decent base recipe. I have a smaller wearisome cooker than what this recipe was intended for so I couldn't apply the recommended amount of liquid. I used around 3 stalks of celery because 4 seemed overkill. I would use all beef broth or a philharmonic of beefiness & craven broth next time as the water leaves it as well flavorless. Aside from that, I added in 2 cans of diced potatoes, two cans of green beans, and 2 cans of peas. I used 2 lbs of cube steak and it was the perfect amount of meat. I was trying to replicate that Campbell'southward beef vegetable soup. This was very close. The but issue I had was that it seems to lack a true savory season, other wise it was good. Likewise, I used Pearl Barley and let it melt for 6-7 hours and it turned out fine, not mushy at all. It seems like the fast cooking barley many other utilise requires y'all to add together information technology in last minute.
03/xix/2004
I must have a smaller sized crock pot because I was just able to fit almost 5 cups of water. It tasted fabled. The barley is a overnice change from using potatoes all the time. By the manner, I concluded up adding the 6th loving cup of water after the soup was done in order to make it more than liquidy and to cut down on the salty gustation.
xi/11/2006
I followed this recipe to a T and it's very good! The only suggestions I have are that I would employ at least 2lbs. of beefiness. And don't buy "stew meat" - use a sirloin or roast and cube information technology. The meat is and so tender and just melts in your rima oris. I too added a few more carrots. I wouldn't phone call it banal, but it could use a few more spices, maybe just a bit more than garlic & pepper. Everybody loves information technology, it's good for you and it's perfect for the fall & winter. YUUUUMMY!
07/twenty/2014
O.K. without modification but lacks any kind of flavor. We are going to try again using all beef goop, and filibuster calculation in the barley and so it's not overcooked.
02/03/2004
I followed the reciped exactly as stated. It was too banal for my taste. I neglected to read the reviews beforehand. I wish that I had. I would accept found another recipe. I won't make this one once more.
02/08/2013
This is a bully simple recipe. I used all unsalted beef goop and yellow onion, fresh garlic. For those that felt it bland, permit information technology absurd and reheat and the flavors are perfect. I commonly go far early in the morning, permit it cool and reheat at dinner and the flavors really blend together.
08/08/2010
One of the est soups I take made from this site, First-class! will brand again! :D
04/07/2006
The soup is Splendid !!! I did use two cups of barley instead of one, merely that'south only considering I similar Barley. Nifty recipe. Thanks :-)
02/xi/2014
This was great! I wasn't sure about the greenish onions (I usually use yellow onions) but it turned out really good. Not certain if it's really necessary to chocolate-brown the beef. I used iii/4 loving cup of barley and didn't apply as much celery and carrots as the recipe called for.
10/13/2008
I added tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, two bay leaves and used beef broth instead of the water and still thought it came out rather bland. We didn't care for this recipe.
02/06/2014
Non half bad! Demand to try it with venison or moose and possibly toss in a soup bone.
12/xviii/2012
This recipe was practiced, I added the rotel tomatoes with chilis to add a little heat.
01/27/2004
easy and hearty! perfect for a snowy day.
07/05/2000
I simply got a crock pot and I was eager to try it out then I took this recipe home with me this weekend. This is one of the all-time soups I accept ever had. It is a perfect crock pot soup!
11/15/2013
proficient soup, just needs more seasoning on meat
eleven/01/2002
Overall adept flavour, but a little disappointing. The barley more or less took over.
01/19/2010
A terrific recipe. I used leftover roast and a ton more veggies and the results were outstanding. Adjacent time, I'll consider adding a bit of hot pepper to add together a little estrus to the mix.
03/12/2009
Great - thanks for sharing.
01/08/2004
Tasty soup! Except mine turned out more similar stew. My slow cooker wasn't large enough and then I could simply put in half the recommended amount of water. But I rather liked information technology as a thicker stew consistency. Very tasty supper for a common cold wintertime evening. Recollect I would cut dorsum on the thyme adjacent time though.
03/09/2005
Awesome!Everybody wanted this recipe from me! I will definitely brand this again! Great on a common cold night!
03/20/2005
Out of this world
01/07/2014
Have fabricated this several times now. Make a few unproblematic changes for an crawly soup. Use all beef broth for the liquid - no water, add together the pearl barley the last 2 hours of cooking time. The soup is very thick the next day. My married man and I and other family unit plant this very tasty and just the kind of soup to warm you lot upwardly on a common cold winter's day
02/27/2014
I really loved this soup the only affair I did dissimilar is I added 1 teaspoon of garlic pulverisation to the soup information technology's cocky while cooking and I switch out the light-green onions for one leek I also only cooked it for 5 hours on high. it was so yummy I'll be making this over and over yum.
11/02/2000
This soup is really very good - somewhat dissimilar from what I had been expecting just adding the spice at the stop of the cooking actually finishes this dish off nicely. Very satisfying meal with bread on the side.
01/27/2015
The parsley adds a unique boot to the combination of beefiness and barley. Will definitely make this again.
01/26/2011
I thought this soup was only okay. The meat itself came out tender and flavorful with the salt, pepper and garlic, but the soup itself was kind of boring. I did however discover the soup somewhat tastier equally leftovers the adjacent day.

Pretty darn expert. I take a 3qt slow cooker though, and so I didnt take quite enough room for all the water. I added it in later (after cookiung when I packed it upward to freeze) and everything however tastes yummy. Becky and the kids liked it too.
